That book hit me hard & has continued to stay with me through the last 18 years. ![]() It always hits me with a sort of nostalgia because I remember exactly where I was when I first read Dark Lover. On one hand, I really liked being immersed back in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. My emotions were very conflicted when I finished this book. I don’t even know where to start with this review. or the embodiment of his utter destruction. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mostly it’s to do with the way that Tony’s partner John Colby (now a cyborg after the butcher’s knife to his face in the first volume maimed him) is a bigot. The first volume had this satirical lens that seemed to say that it didn’t approve of the characters much, so I was able to just let the bad behavior and grossness of some characters go, but here it seems like the narrative voice, or whatever, condones the bad behavior? It’s hard to explain. And both these dudes are to blame, in my opinion. So basically there are two things ruining my enjoyment here, and I almost two-starred this, but I want to see what happens and if the series course corrects. 3-5 checked out from the library right now I’ll probably keep going, but with a warier eye now. I don’t know what to think about this series now. Ugh, why you gotta ruin a good thing, John and Rob?* Ugh. ![]() ![]() When Erin finds out the truth about what Lani and Jason did over the summer, she is furious with Lani, lashing out publicly, and leaving Lani fearful that her senior year will be fraught. Then Lani meets Jason, who has just started dating Erin. Lani, a reserved, grounded Taurus, and Erin, an outgoing, mercurial Leo, are best friends who couldn’t be more different. ![]() ![]() But that is exactly why the Unicorn's totally rocked this book. actually, Maureen Johnson is possibly my favourite author in this book so I'll give you a point there. See? I can't even speak I'm so stupefied by the zombies' infinite superiority The gut clenching angst of it was.amazing. Or perhaps you meant Cassandra Clare? Her story was as amazing as her books. Team Zombie: If by Margo you mean Maureen, and by Lanagan you mean Johnson, then ok, that makes sense. Team Unicorn: I read it.and then quickly moved on to Margo Lanagan's which was funny and awesome. Team Zombie: What are you talking about? Zombies ruled this book!
